Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has declared Friday, 18th December 2020, a public holiday.
This is due to the local government election scheduled to take place on the said date.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu made available to ABN TV, the governor also announced the restriction of movement of persons and goods from midnight of Thursday, 17th December, 2020, exempting ABSIEC staff and others on essential duty.
“Furthermore, movement of persons and goods shall be restricted within the state from midnight of Thursday, 17th December, 2020 with only staff of Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), security agents, media practitioners and others on essential duties exempted.

“We wish to call on citizens and visitors alike to ensure the maintenance of peace, law and order before, during and after the election” the statement partly read.
