To curb increasing cases of reckless driving and traffic violations, the Abia State Ministry of Transport has unveiled a special enforcement taskforce targeting wrong-way driving, especially in major cities like Umuahia and Aba.
The new enforcement team has been empowered to issue strict penalties, including the impoundment and auctioning of vehicles belonging to repeat offenders. The crackdown comes amid concerns about public safety and the rising number of avoidable road accidents due to flagrant disregard for traffic laws.
“Driving against traffic is a dangerous act that endangers lives and disrupts road order. We are putting a stop to it,” the Transport Ministry stated, assuring that the operation will be strict, sustained, and non-negotiable.
Residents have been urged to comply with road safety regulations or risk serious legal and financial consequences.
