Following the landslide victory of the Labour Party at the recently concluded Federal and State elections as well as the massive celebration that followed, Abians wishes to sternly advice the APC Gubernatorial candidate Chief Ikechi Emenike and his counterpart, Mrs Nkiru Onyejeocha to steer clear from actions that are capable of disrupting the peace and tranquility which Abians currently enjoy.
The massive celebration in the streets of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi LGAs during the Federal elections as well as the joy on the faces of Abians in general which came from the defeat of the 16 years sit-tight reign of APC’s Nkiru Onyejeocha and the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party by Dr Alex Otti, all points to the goodwill and general acceptability of the Labour Party candidates in Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal constituency and Abia Governorship in general.
Furthermore and for the first time in Abia State, the numerous congratulatory messages from virtually all Party-aspirants reinforces the acceptability of the electoral process and will of the people. It also emphasizes the credibility of the elections conducted in Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency as well as the Governorhsip seat.
We urge Chief Ikechi Emenike and his co-traveller to accept the will of Abians and move on with their lives. Moreso, we urge him to take a cue from the Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu and the PDP whom, despite being runners up, posited that the PDP does not intend to pursue unnecessary and frivolous court case against Labour Party under any guise. Governor Ikpeazu’s exposee further proves that Labour Party won meritoriously and credibly across board.
At this juncture, we are not unaware of plans orchestrated by elements of APC in Abia State to subvert the will of Abians through unnecessary litigations and disturbances against the Labour Party House of Representatives winners as well at the Governor-elect. Abians wish to remind Chief Ikechi Emenike and his co-traveller, Mrs Nkiru Onyejeocha that:
1. Abia State is not Imo State. It is unnecessary to distract the peoples mandate or subvert same through any means.
2. In every election, there must be winners and learners. While we extend a hand of fellowship to them, we wish to remind Mrs Onyejeocha and Ikechi Emenike that Abia State is bigger than anybody no matter how highly connected or wealthy they are.
3. Abians will resist every effort to distract their duly elected Labour Party faithfuls at the House of Representatives as well as the Governorship level.
4. A good politician is one who accepts peoples will and swim with a positive tide. As we earlier advised, it is pointless and counterproductive for any interest group to use the “Imo State Supreme Court strategy” on Abians at both the House of Representatives and Governorship level.
We enjoin them to be brave enough, join our duly elected leaders and build a better Abia, Abia is not Imo State. May God bless Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency and Abia State.
