The Abia State Government (ABSG) on Tuesday announced that candidates who scored 45% and above in the recently conducted teachers’ recruitment computer-based test (CBT) will be invited for an oral interview next week.
According to the government, shortlisted candidates will receive their invitations via SMS.
This initiative aligns with Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to strengthening the education sector. In a move to improve tertiary education, the governor recently paid an unscheduled visit to Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), where he directed the immediate development of new facilities. These include a 5000-capacity hostel, new faculties for agriculture and law, additional cafeterias, and the reconstruction of internal roads within the university.
Beyond education, the government is making significant strides in infrastructure. About eight roads in Aba have been completed and will soon be commissioned, signaling progress in urban renewal efforts. Additionally, the newly reconstructed 45-kilometer Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Akara-Alayi-Abiriba Road is set for commissioning on April 2, 2025, with former President Olusegun Obasanjo presiding over the event. To enhance safety, engineers are currently installing solar streetlights along the route.
In a further push for road development, Governor Otti will also flag off the reconstruction of major roads, including the 4.32 km Orpet-Umudafia-Lodu-Ahiaeke Road and the 3.79 km Ahiaeke-Okwuta-Bende Road.
The administration is also prioritizing the revitalization of the Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu (ASCETA), which has suffered years of neglect. Efforts are underway to prepare the institution for accreditation in October, with infrastructural improvements such as a 500kVA transformer, a new water project, and perimeter fencing.
These initiatives underscore the government’s unwavering commitment to improving education, infrastructure, and the overall development of Abia State.
