Abia State Government has said it is willing to partner with one of the leading private universities in Nigeria, Gregory University Uturu in developing entrepreneurs studies to create employment in line with the vision of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
The Commissioner of Education, Asso. Prof Kanelechi Nwangwa made the declaration when he led a team of top officials from the ministry and some aides of the Governor on an official tour of the university.
Speaking during the visit, Prof Nwangwa commended the Chancellor and Proprietor of Gregory University Uturu, Prof Gregory Ibe for the courage of envisioning and establishing a higher institution that has the mission of empowering young people with skills and competencies, a statement by Sleek Ogbonnaya Ogwo, Deputy Registrar, Media & Public Relations of the University says.
He said, “Speaking further he paid glowing tributes to Prof Ibe for launching and sustaining a statewide campaign against poverty-driven illiterate through the award of tuition-free scholarship opportunities to Abia youths and encouraged him not to relent.

“According to Prof Nwangwa, Our visit is inspired by the good testimonies we have heard about your avowed passion and commitment to the empowerment of our youths, which led to the establishment of Gregory University Uturu and thus provided a platform for the award of tuition-free scholarship opportunities to indigent Abia youths. Having therefore seen the high standard of your academic programmes, especially in the area of entrepreneurship studies, it will be our desire to collaborate with your institution towards realizing the Education to Employment vision of the Governor.
“In his response, Prof Ibe appreciated the commissioner and members of his delegation for the visit, reiterating the willingness of the university to continue supporting Abia state government to sustain her enviable position as the best state in the education sector in the country.
“Highlight of the visit was a facility tour of the campus by the delegation. Correspondents report that the Vice-Chancellor Prof Augustine Uwakwe led other members of the university management in receiving the delegation.”
