Abia Govt Cancels April Environmental Sanitation Exercise To Accommodate JAMB Candidates

The Abia State Government has announced the cancellation of its monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025, in a move aimed at ensuring free movement for candidates sitting for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement released and made available to ABN TV on Thursday, the Commissioner for Environment, Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, FCA, said the decision was taken to allow students taking the JAMB-organized exam to access their designated centers without hindrance.

Despite the suspension of the formal sanitation exercise, the government urged residents across the state to take personal responsibility for cleaning their surroundings. “We strongly encourage all residents to clean their homes, surroundings, gutters, and nearby drainage systems,” the statement read.

The commissioner emphasized the importance of environmental hygiene in promoting public health and preventing disease outbreaks, calling for collective action in maintaining cleanliness.

The Abia State Government expressed appreciation to the public for their understanding and cooperation, reaffirming its commitment to balancing educational priorities with environmental health efforts.
