Abia Govt Begins Survey For First International Airport In Nsulu

The Abia State Government has commenced survey activities for the construction of its first international airport, a groundbreaking project aimed at boosting the state’s economic and infrastructural development.

The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije, shared the news with journalists, highlighting that the project follows extensive negotiations and discussions involving the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, and the Special Assistant on Lands and Housing, Pastor Okorougo Aji. These efforts have engaged the seven land-donor communities in Nsulu.

According to Mr. Chukwumerije, a mutual understanding has been established with the donor communities, enabling joint survey activities conducted by the Office of the Surveyor General in collaboration with representatives of the communities, including their youth leaders.

He noted that the survey officially began on Saturday, November 30, 2024, but faced initial protests from some members of the Umunna Nsulu community, who claimed they had not been fully included. The Chief of Staff swiftly intervened, addressing their concerns and assuring that everyone involved would be properly engaged moving forward.

“Following this swift intervention by the Chief of Staff, the survey activities led by the Surveyor General of the state, NKC Abaraonye, continued with active participation from representatives of all the land-donor communities,” the Commissioner said.

Mr. Chukwumerije reiterated the government’s commitment to conducting a comprehensive enumeration process and providing fair compensation to affected parties, in accordance with the Land Use Act.
