Abia Govt Awards Contracts For 5 Key Roads, Sets Flag-Off For Oct. 24

— Otti’s Administration Intensifies Drive to Open Up Rural Communities

The Abia State Government has awarded contracts for the construction of five major roads across the state as part of its ongoing infrastructural revolution aimed at transforming road networks and boosting economic activities, ABN TV reports.

Announcing this in Umuahia, the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Chief Prince Okey Kanu, said two of the roads, the 25-kilometre Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road and the 13.1-kilometre Ariam–Usaka Ring Road in Ikwuano Local Government Area, will be officially flagged off on Friday, October 24, 2025.

He listed the other three projects to include the 9.35km Ihechiowa–Arochukwu Ring Road, the 4.9km Isieketa–Mba Itungwa–Mgbedeala Road in Isiala Ngwa South, and the 3.72km Ogidi–Umuala Eziama Ntigha Road in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.

According to Chief Kanu, the new contracts reflect the commitment of Governor Alex Otti’s administration to deliver quality infrastructure that connects rural and urban centres, enhances trade, and promotes balanced development across all parts of the state.

“These road projects are part of the government’s deliberate effort to open up rural communities for business and economic expansion,” the Commissioner stated.

He assured that all contractors handling the projects have been carefully selected based on competence and capacity, adding that the government will closely monitor their performance to ensure that work is completed according to specifications and timelines.

Chief Kanu reaffirmed that the Otti-led government remains focused on delivering durable roads and other critical infrastructure that will stand the test of time, reduce travel difficulties, and open new opportunities for residents and investors alike.
