Abia Government Activates “No Work, No Pay” Policy On Workers

Rattled over high spate of strike action by the state’s workforce, Abia State government has said it has activated the “No Work, No Pay” policy on the workers, saying their penchant for embarking on strike is counterproductive.

In a statement on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, Abia State government particularly pointed out the ABSUTH tops the list of organisations that have the lion share in the number of months they have been on strike since the inception of the government in 2015.

While reiterating its commitment to the welfare of workers, the government insists that it would no longer allow politicians use them as tools to distabilise the state

The statement read in part, “Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) is a case in point. This Administration is 97 months old already. Since the inception of the present Administration, ABSUTH have been on strike for 21 months whilst Resident Doctors have been on strike for 25 months (from November 2018 till date). However, Government have continually paid ABSUTH salaries for 34 months and Resident Doctors 35 months”.

To this end, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu directs as a matter of policy that henceforth, the Rule of “no work; no pay” applies in Abia State.”

The state government therefore urged all agencies, including law enforcement organisations, and the general public to note the policy for compliance.
