First Lady of Abia State, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu has finally paid a condolence visit to the family of Mr. Chibuzo Ikwunze, of Umuagu Ohuhu in Umuahia North local government who lost his four children recently under mysterious circumstances.
The children were said to have died on 25th of August after allegedly eating local barbecue, popularly known as suya recently.
Though the cause of their death is yet to be determined.
Wife of the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu’s visit comes a day after an opinion article published by ABN TV, which accused the state government of not showing enough empathy to the family due to their inability to pay a visit to the family since the incident happened.
She was said to have made a donation of undisclosed amount to the family to assist in the burial of the four children.
The wife of the Governor has commiserated with the family of Mr. Chibuzo Ikwunze who lost his four children in one fell swoop on the 25th of August in Umuahia in yet to be determined circumstances.
A statement signed by Chika Ojiegbe, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor’s wife and obtained by ABN TV said, “The late children, kelechi aged 12, Chimdi aged 10, Oluomachi aged 8 and Kingsley aged 3 had gone for holidays at the home of a friend of the family when they had met their untimely death. Their host also succumbed to death.
“Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu who paid a visit to the bereaved family at their hometown Umuagu Ohuhu in Umuahia North to meet with father and mother of the late kids, said she had come to console the family over the sad and unfortunate incident, and urged them to take heart and be consoled by the word of God.”
According to the release, the First Lady who was represented by the Principal Secretay Office of the Wife of the Governor Chief Mrs Love Ezema recalled that as soon as this incident happened Governor Ikpeazu dispatched a team to the FMC that ensured that the survivors were treated promptly and also paid their medical bills.
She said that the Governor had further directed and funded the management of FMC to ensure that thorough autopsies are performed to determine what led to this unfortunate incident and as soon as the result is out it will be made public.
Mrs. Ikpeazu expressed sympathy to the mother of the four children, praying that God should grant the heartbroken woman fortitude to bear the painful loss.
Responding, Mr Chibuzo Ikwunze, who fought to hold back his tears thanked the wife of the Governor for her motherly care and for reaching out to support the family in the moment of grief.
Also speaking a community leader Chief Patrick Emenike who welcomed the First Lady to the community described the action of the first lady as very kind. He said the incident was very unusual, prayed that it may never happen again to any family in the state and expressed gratitude to the Governor for the role he played when the incident occurred.
The representative of the First lady was accompanied on the visit by the State woman leader of the PDP, Lady Christy Emenike, former Deputy Chairman of Ukwa West, Lady Cecilia Okere, wife of former Commissioner of Boundary Matters, Mrs. Ezinne Obike, and the Chief Press Secretary to the wife of the Governor, Mr. Chika Ojiegbe.
