The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, has dismissed three officers from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for their involvement in conspiracy, abduction, and extortion of innocent civilians.
The officers, identified as Sergeant Jonas Nnamdi, Corporal James Daniel, and Corporal Ifeanyi Emeka, have also been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution alongside their civilian accomplices.
According to a statement released and made available to ABN TV by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the officers were found guilty of serious misconduct following an orderly room trial. Their dismissal took effect on February 7, 2025, after investigations confirmed their role in an incident that occurred on January 29, 2025.
On the said date, the dismissed officers, along with two civilian accomplices, allegedly conspired to hire a minibus, armed themselves with an electric baton, an assault rifle, and a Beretta pistol, and abducted civilians along the Port Harcourt Expressway. They reportedly extorted money from their victims and later demanded additional payments from their families for their release.
Following their arrest by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Abayi, the Abia State Police Command launched a disciplinary process that confirmed their culpability. Consequently, their official accoutrements have been retrieved, and they are no longer part of the Nigeria Police Force.
CP Danladi Isa reiterated the command’s commitment to upholding discipline and professionalism, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and misconduct. He assured the public that the Abia State Police Command remains dedicated to the vision of the Inspector General of Police in ensuring a service-oriented, law-compliant, and people-friendly police force.
The dismissed officers will now face legal proceedings, as the command continues efforts to rid the force of bad elements.
