The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Janet Agbede has applauded the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for his support in the timely completion of a brand new mess for senior officers of the command.

This is even as she conferred Honorary Grand Patron of the Officers’ mess on the governor as well as Honorary Member on the Senator representing Abia South, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe.

Speaking at the commissioning of the new building on Saturday in Umuahia, the Commissioner of Police said prior to her coming in the state, senior officers of the Force lived in dilapidated structure as mess which she said challenged her to commence the new befitting accommodation for them.

She said the new officers’ mess will be a place to entertain friends, centre for research on security issues, centre for workshop, seminar and discussions which she said will improve security strategy in the state and country at large, centre for recreation and relaxation and others.

While noting that the mess structure cost millions of Naira, she also expressed gratitude to God and the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, adding that the relative peace in Abia made the completion of the structure possible.

The CP also thanked the sister agencies, including the military, NSCDC, NIS, NCS, DSS for their support in fighting and controlling crime in the state.

She expressed optimism that the brand new mess for officers and men of the command will further motivate them in giving their best to ensure that the state is protected.

In his remarks, the representative of the IGP and the AIG in charge of Zone 13, Anambra, AIG Umar Muri applauded the Commissioner of Police in Abia, CP Agbede who is the first female Commissioner of Police since creation of the state for her efforts in making the project a reality.

The IGP said improvement of welfare of officers of the force remains a top priority under his leadership, adding that the new officers’ mess will minimise security risks for men of the command in view of the security situation in the state and country at large.

While noting that the structure will also provide shelter and rallying point for inter agency cooperation that will enhance synergy in tackling security concerns in Abia, the IGP thanked the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu for his support and partnership with the police.

He reiterated his readiness to continue to adopt the community policing system to ensure that all Abians are safe at all times.
