Abia-Born Leader, Nwachinemere Kalu-Agba, Re-Elected Deputy Mayor In United States

A Nigerian-born public official, Nwachinemere Kalu-Agba, has been re-elected as the Deputy Mayor (Mayor Pro Tem) of the City of Orangeburg, South Carolina, United States, securing another two-year term that will run until 2027.

ABN TV reports that the announcement was made public on Sunday through a Facebook post by his younger brother, Mr. Peter Agba Kalu, who congratulated him and urged friends, associates, and the Nigerian community to celebrate the milestone.

Kalu-Agba, who hails from Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, currently resides in the United States, where he also serves as a City Council representative for his district.

He previously held the Deputy Mayor role but had stepped aside due to a new state law regulating the Mayor Pro Tem tenure. The law stipulates a maximum two-year term for the position and prohibits immediate consecutive re-election. Former officeholders are only eligible to recontest after a full term cycle.

With the expiration of his successor’s tenure, Kalu-Agba became eligible again and successfully reclaimed the seat. He will now serve simultaneously as Deputy Mayor and City Council member until the end of his current four-year council mandate in 2027.

As his political future remains open beyond 2027, supporters within the Nigerian and diaspora communities have described his re-election as an inspiring example of excellence, leadership, and global representation.
