Abia Assembly Moves To Investigate Alleged Leakage In Board Of Internal Revenue

Abia State House of Assembly has commenced an investigation into alleged revenue leakage in the state’s Board of Internal Revenue.

Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji on Wednesday inaugurated an eight-man Adhoc committee during plenary following a petition written by a law firm and readout on the floor of the Assembly by Hon Barr Emeka Okoroafor, the Chairman House Committee on Judiciary and Public Petitions.

The investigative committee headed by the Majority Leader, Hon Barr Solomon Akpulonu also has as members Rt Hon Barr Chikwendu Enyinnaya Kalu, Rt Hon Bishop Kennedy Njoku, Hon Kelechi Onuzuruike, Hon Barr Thomas A.C. Nkoro, Hon Barr Emeka Okoroafor, Hon Chukwu Chijioke, and Mr Onyemachi Alili who will be the Secretary.

The committee has a two-week period to report back to Assembly.

A report had circulated online recently, alleging outrageous tax imposed on small-scale businesses by Abia State Board of Internal Revenue.

The authors say it is a deliberate effort by the board to undermine the gains being made by the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu to boost the economy of the state through small and medium scale businesses.
