Abia State House of Assembly has entertained a petition brought before it by the member representing Ohafia South State Constituency, Chief Kalu Mba Nwoke titled “the nefarious acts of Mr Nmecha Ume, the President General of Okon – Aku Development Union in vandalizing machinery at the Eastern Region Estate Investment Palm Settlement, Okon – Aku Ohafia.”
Chief Mba Nwoke in his petition appealed for the reactivation of the Eastern Region Estate Investment Palm Settlement to ensure employment for his constituents and proper investigation into the vandalization of the iron rods from the Palm Settlement and prosecution of those involved among others.
ABN TV had reported cases of vandalisation at the facility where some equipment were made away with.
The House also passed into law H.A.B.12: The Abia State Medicine and Health Commodities Management Agency Bill, 2024.
The Bill which seek to ensure regular availability of quality medicines and health commodities at affordable cost and strengthening of manufacturing unit for local production of medicine among others was sponsored by the Majority Leader and member for Arochukwu State Constituency, Mr Okoro Uchenna Kalu.
Speaking during the passage of the bill, the Speaker Chief Emmanuel Emeruwa said the bill when assented to would be deemed to have come into force on the 4th day of April, 2024.
The House adjourned plenary to reconvene Tuesday next week.
