Abia Assembly C’tee On Anti Corruption To Meet With EFCC Over Petitions Against Govt Officials

The Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Anti-Corruption and public accounts has concluded arrangements to hold a joint interactive session with the leadership of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), other anti-graft agencies as well as the relevant security agencies.

The aim is to attend to petitions filed against elected and appointed officials of the State government who have been accused of various offences.

Hon. Obinna Ichita, Chairman of the committee in a statement on Thursday assured their petitioners of its readiness to a quick consideration of their petitions in relation to the Auditor General’s Report and the financial statement of the accounts of Abia State Government.

These he said will be carried out speedily in the next 14 days.

“The committee is expected to submit the report of its findings in the Plenary session of the Abia State House of Assembly.

“The Head of Service of Abia State and all accounting officers of the concerned Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Abia State Government will be given further information regarding their various dates and times of appearance before the Committee”, he stated.

Ichita is one the Assembly members suspended for one month by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji without pay for allegedly bringing the name of the legislative House to a disrepute.
