The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied claims that its State Working Committee (SWC) has endorsed any aspirant for the party’s 2027 governorship ticket.
In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the party described allegations linking the SWC to a planned endorsement meeting as false and misleading.
The clarification follows claims by governorship aspirant, Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu, who had raised concerns over an alleged endorsement arrangement within the party.
“The SWC has not endorsed any aspirant for the governorship or any elective position. Such claims are entirely without basis,” the statement read.
The party emphasized that it is not constitutionally empowered to endorse candidates, noting that its role is to provide a neutral platform that guarantees fairness and credibility in the party’s internal processes.
It added that the only endorsement made at the state level remains that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in line with national party directives.
The APC assured members that all aspirants would be given a level playing field, stressing that the forthcoming primaries would be conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
The party also cautioned stakeholders against spreading unverified claims capable of creating tension within its ranks, reiterating its commitment to unity and credible internal democracy ahead of the 2027 elections.
