A 67-year-old Nigerian man identified as Oluwatoye Bamgboye was reportedly rescued by the operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) from committing suicide on his birthday.
According to reports, Mr. Oluwatoye Bamgboye was stopped by the RRS from jumping into the Lagoon at the 3rd Mainland bridge on Tuesday, April 5, 2022.
Upon interrogation, after he was being rescued, the man stated that he had wanted to carry out the callous act due to some personal challenges he is facing in his life which seems to be very persistent despite his efforts to solve them.
Mr. Oluwatoye revealed that he had sold his car, land, and car just to solve the problem but still, all these efforts proved abortive. He proceeded to secure a loan to curb the situation but still couldn’t succeed.
He further narrated that he secure a job opportunity and on the day he was supposed to start work, he was told that the job has been given to another person. He added that his wife has also abandoned in the process, hence the decision to end it all on his birthday.
In his own words, he said; “Today being my birthday, I have decided to end it all. The burden and the frustration are too much for me to bear. My wife has abandoned me in the process.”
