The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has announced the shortlisting of 57 legal practitioners for elevation to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

This announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir Akanbi. According to the statement, the decision was reached during the committee’s 169th plenary session held on Tuesday.

“The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is conferred as a mark of professional excellence upon legal practitioners who have distinguished themselves through outstanding advocacy in court or significant contributions to legal scholarship as academics,” the statement said.

In line with directives from the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), all shortlisted candidates are required to attend and successfully complete a mandatory pre-swearing-in induction programme. Participation in this induction is a prerequisite for their formal conferment.

The LPPC also emphasized the ethical requirements outlined in Paragraph 25(1) of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Guidelines and Rule 39(3) of the Rules of Professional Conduct, 2023. As such, candidates are strictly prohibited from publishing or endorsing congratulatory advertisements or goodwill messages related to their nomination or potential conferment.

“Any violation of these rules may attract sanctions for breaching statutory or ethical guidelines,” the committee warned.

The official swearing-in ceremony for the 57 successful applicants is scheduled for September 29, 2025.
