A devastating road accident has claimed the lives of four people on the Aba-Ikot Ekpene road in Abia State.
The tragic incident occurred when a speeding Toyota Sienna bus collided with a tricycle, leaving a trail of destruction and death.
Eyewitnesses report that the bus was traveling at top speed towards Aba, while the tricycle was heading in the opposite direction, carrying four passengers, including the driver. The bus driver’s reckless driving and failure to consider the highway’s conditions led to the catastrophic crash.
The Aba-Ikot Ekpene highway is currently undergoing rehabilitation, with some portions still incomplete. This has created hazardous conditions for motorists, and the Agalaba Patriotic Forum (APF), a local youth group, had warned the construction company to address the poorly rehabilitated areas before the accident occurred.
The collision occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m., and sympathizers attempted to remove the bodies while soldiers arrived at the scene, chasing away those taking pictures.
This heartbreaking incident highlights the urgent need for improved road safety measures and responsible driving practices to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims.
