2027: INEC Receives 10 More Requests For Political Party Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it has received 10 additional letters of intent from groups seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total number of pending applications to 144.

This update was shared on Thursday in a statement by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun.

“The Commission has received 10 more letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties, bringing the number so far to 144,” the statement said.

“Details of the new associations, including their names, acronyms, logos, addresses, and interim leaderships, are available on our website and other platforms.”

INEC had previously disclosed on June 25 that it received 110 applications. Since then, 34 additional submissions have been made. The Commission is currently reviewing all applications to assess eligibility for the next phase of the registration process.

Olumekun also revealed that INEC has completed the development of a new in-house political party registration portal, designed by its ICT department.

“As with all our IT innovations, the portal has been demonstrated to the Commission and approved for deployment,” he said.
