2027 Elections: I’ve Joined Coalition To Fight Hunger, Poverty, Poor Governance – Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, has stated that his involvement in the emerging political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections is driven by a shared mission to combat bad governance, hunger, and poverty—not by personal political ambition.

Obi made the clarification in response to a question from Vanguard regarding recent reports suggesting an alleged political agreement with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to run as his Vice President in the upcoming 2027 elections.

The report also claimed that Atiku had pledged to serve only one term and was open to formalizing the agreement in writing.

Speaking at an event in Kubwa, Abuja, where he donated to a school and hospital project spearheaded by the Anglican Church, Obi did not confirm or deny the existence of such an arrangement.

Instead, he reaffirmed his commitment to the broader goals of the coalition.

“You can make of the report what you want, but I’m in a coalition against bad governance, hunger, and poverty,” Obi stated.

His comments highlight a consistent emphasis on national development and the welfare of citizens rather than political positioning or personal ambition.

In a separate development, Obi also addressed his recent trip to the Vatican for the inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XIV, stressing that the visit should not be seen through a political lens.
