Argentina manager, Lionel Scaloni has opened up on why he has refused to invite Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho to the senior national team.
The World Cup winners are set for important 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil respectively.
In a chat with TribalFootball, Scaloni stated that Garnacho must regain his form if he must get his way back into the team.
“The reason for not calling up Garnacho? Ale’s non-selection is due to a form issue.
“We don’t like to bring players in and constantly leave them out or leave them out of the squad. Everyone wants to be there and it’s great, but the human side plays and you have to make decisions.”
Garnacho was born on 1 July 2004 in Madrid to a Spanish-born father, Alex Garnacho, and an Argentinian mother, Patricia Ferreyra Fernández.
He has a younger brother, Roberto Garnacho. Alex Garnacho is closely associated with the management firm, Leader Sports Management, who currently represent Alejandro.
In March 2023, he was called up once again to the senior Argentina team for two friendly matches against Panama and Curaçao but had to withdraw from the squad after suffering an ankle injury.
He made his debut for the senior team on 15 June 2023, during a friendly against Australia at Workers’ Stadium, coming on as a substitute for Nicolás González during the second half of the game.
