2023 WASSCE Begins May 8 – WAEC

The 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Patrick Areghan, the head of the WAEC National Office, announced the exam’s seven-week timetable in a speech to the media on Thursday in Lagos. The exam will take place from Monday, May 8 to Friday, June 23.

He noted that some locations need more security procedures and expressed concern about the level of insecurity in the nation.

“We are liaising with the Inspector General of Police, Brigade Commanders, other security agencies, and state governments.”

“This is to ensure the examination is conducted in a safe environment. We’ve also sought the intervention of the Minister of Education,” he said.

Areghan suggested that the WAEC zonal and branch offices had also contacted local security companies for assistance.

There were 1,621,853 applicants total, representing 20,851 secondary schools across Nigeria.

According to the breakdown, there are 798,810 men, or 49.25 percent, and 823,043 women, or 50.75 percent.
