Less than 30 days to the 2023 election, the All Progressives Congress (APC), presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, is leading his opponents in searches on Google Trends.
ABN TV reports that the latest search interest on Google Trends has been captured between December 29, 2022, and January 25, 2023.
In the latest ranking, Tinubu has 40 percent search interest on google to lead the others, while Peter Obi (Labour Party) came second with 30 percent. Atiku Abubakar (Peoples Democratic Party, PDP) is in third position with 26 percent search while Rabiu Kwankwaso (New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP) is fourth with four percent searches.
This newspaper reports that eighteen candidates will be vying for Nigeria’s presidency.
The 2023 presidential election is the seventh poll Nigeria will conduct since its return to democracy in 1999.
Accusations of election rigging have long plagued Nigeria’s elections, although officials have vowed that 2023 will be different. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has pinned that pledge to new technology meant to prevent repeat voting, as well as measures aimed at stifling vote buying.
