2023: Igbo Must Stop Undermining Other Tribes To Achieve Presidency, Fmr Abia Speaker

Former Speaker Abia state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka has called on Ndigbo to mind the way they relate with people from other parts of the country to make the dream of Igbo Presidency in 2023 a reality, ABN TV reports.

According to the former Speaker, the way Ndigbo relate with people of other tribes on the country does not engender confidence and trust, calling for amendment.

He spoke on Tuesday in Igbere, Abia State at a meeting of South East leaders convened by the Senate Chief Whip, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu.

Speaking partially in Igbo language, he said the way Igbo speak to Hausa and Yoruba people send fear in their mind, insisting that it is time to re-strategise.

“We may be here and speak as much as we like, but if we don’t mind the way we relate with others, it won’t be fruitful. How we speak to and relate with them will determine if they will give us their support.

“At the end of the day, what we want is Presidency. We must therefore be diplomatic in our approach.

“During voting period, we put all our eggs in one basket. Again, outcome of elections sometimes do not reflect what happened at the polling boots. As an Umuahia man, my party always wins but during result, we see another thing. At the end of the day, we work with second 11. We don’t work with our bests” he said.

Ohajuruka urged Ndigbo to device means to convince people of other tribes that they need their support to produce the next President.

He expressed surprise that the bipartisan meeting did not have the presence of Governors from the region despite invitation, maintaining that all hands must be on deck that fight for what rightly belongs to Ndigbo.

Also speaking, a chieftain of APGA, Chief Chekwas Okorie expressed gratitude to the former Abia governor, Sen. Kalu for bringing Ndigbo together to deliberate on their political future.

He said he’s happy to not only witness the Igbere meeting but to be part of it.

Chief Okorie while expressing happiness with the quality of Igbo leaders present said the region is relevant in the political affairs of Nigeria, adding that the meeting in Igbere is a step in the right direction that would aid the realization of Igbo Presidency in 2023.
