The government of Abia State has expressed shock at the blatant impunity displayed by some traditional leaders who have abandoned their basic duties as stewards of the people’s traditions and customs and entered the sphere of party politics in the state.
This information was provided in a release that SSG Chris Ezem, the Secretary to the State Government, signed and distributed to journalists in Umuahia on Friday.
The government further stated that it has received several complaints about the participation of acknowledged traditional leaders from the Abia North, Central, and South senatorial districts who have flouted established public order.
According to the release, the state government has taken notice of the activities of three traditional rulers from Abia North, two from Abia Central, and two from Abia South.
“By this final notice, all traditional rulers are warned to desist forthwith from such unwholesome act as the government will not hesitate to sanction any erring traditional ruler going forward,” the release stated.
