2023 Election: Peter Obi Came Like A Hurricane – Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has lauded Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, for his bravery and action during the Nigerian election in 2023.

Speaking about the many events surrounding Nigeria’s general elections in 2023 on Thursday, Fayose said Peter Obi could do something no other politician had done in recent years.

According to Fayose, the LP candidate was successful in exposing Nigeria’s political system’s faults and shortcomings.

He said, “Obi came like a hurricane and did what no one has done, he exposed everyone. Our leaders are products of Nigerian society, The system is sick, and no candidate is innocent.”

Former Ekiti State Governor Fayose also called for a thorough study of the Nigerian system at all levels, arguing that without this, reform would be impossible.

He claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cannot be held only responsible for the outcome of the 2023 election because the commission reflects the Nigerian system’s failure.

Fayose slammed Nigeria’s “poor” system, which included everything from the judiciary to national security services and the media, and encouraged Nigerians to stop pointing fingers.

He said, “INEC is just one party to the parties of this whole issue on the ground. INEC does not carry guns; does not have the power to do certain things other than ensure a free and fair election in the country. The police and military are to blame and largely the politicians.”

Concerning his support for APC candidate Bola Tinubu, Fayose stated that he had done nothing wrong, adding that it was a corporate decision of the G5 Governors to support a southern candidate because the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) refused to honor the power rotation agreement that should have given its 2023 presidential ticket to a southerner.

He said that the PDP’s inability to fulfill the zoning agreement resulted in the resignation of Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and others, reducing the party’s vote dramatically in the just-finished election.
