The opposition people’s Democratic party (PDP) in Ebonyi State on Monday, petitioned nation’s security chiefs over an alleged plans to seal its secretariat in the state.
It accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for masterminding the plan.
PDP absolved itself of any complicity in the alleged shootings during the just concluded 3-man delegate congress election in the state.
Spokesperson of PDP, Mr. Nwoba Chika who said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, explained that there was no internal party crisis to warrant the plot to seal its secretariat.
Part of the statement reads, “The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi State has been drawn to the threat and allegation levelled against it by Ebonyi State government led by Engr David Umahi.
“He made the threat of sealing the state secretariat of the party, buttressing his reason on an alleged shooting on the premises of the party last week.
“It’s pertinent to reiterate that no crisis erupted in the secretariat of our ebullient party. Police only fired shots into the air when a deluge of party members involuntarily swooped on the Adhoc delegation that came to organize a 3-man delegates congress in the state.
“Our party controls a better half of the Ebonyi population and it’s not out of place to have the retinue of heads rearing to catch glimpse of the faces of the party’s august guests.
“We frown at the threat coming from the government and charge them to desist from slandering the PDP in Ebonyi State out of envy of the successes the party has recorded within the little time frame.
“We are a law-abiding political movement that has always adopted decorum and rule of law in carrying out its activities. We, therefore, draw the attention of the security agencies in the state to this outlandish threat coming from a supposed refined leader”.
