A political stakeholder in Abia North and member representing Bende federal constituency House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu has solicited support from Abia South and other parts of the state to enable the senatorial district to produce the next governor of the state.

He said Abia North senatorial district supported the emergence of governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia South as governor, saying the North deserves similar support to have its own turn as the number one seat in the state come 2023.

Hon. Kalu, Spokesperson of the House of Representatives who spoke on the radio programme Ben Kalu Mandate streamed by ABN TV noted that a shift from this will cause a sense of alienation in political structure of the state.

The lawmaker stressed that what he called balancing formula had been initiated by the founding fathers of the state to engender loyalty and cohesion.

“And one of the elements that increase cohesion is that increase in the sense of belonging, sense of ownership that moves from one corner of the state to another,” he said.

While calling for continuation in the rotational order in governance of Abia, Hon. Kalu added that it brings about predictability and a reasonable sense of control in the political atmosphere of Abia.

He stated that he particularly supported for a Southern governor in the spirit of equity which produced Gov. Ikpeazu, calling for reciprocity of such support for Northern senatorial district.

ABN TV reports that a group, Ukwa La Ngwa Elders Council comprising Isiala Ngwa North, South and Osisioma had recently said that Abia central will take over governance from Gov. Ikpeazu.
