Ikechukwu Obichukwu crowned what was a spectacular day for Team Nigeria at Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, winning the silver medal in men’s Heavyweight Powerlifting on Thursday night.
Obichukwu lifted 190kg to finish second behind Sudhir of India while Micky Yule of Scotland took bronze.
Obichukwu’s medal took Team Nigeria’s tally to four medals from three Powerlifting events.
Also, Team Nigeria lead the powerlifting medal table with one gold, two silver and one bronze.
The highlight of Thursday’s powerlifting event was Folashade Oluwafemiayo who broke her own World Record lifting 155kg en route winning gold.
Also on Thursday, Team Nigeria is guaranteed two more medals from Boxing, after Elizabeth Oshoba and Cynthia Ogunsemilore won their quarter-final bouts.
Oshoba fought in the women’s 54kg-57kg Featherweight category, while Ogunsemilore’s fight was in the over 57kg – 60kg Lightweight.
