18 Months Salary Arrears: We Never Begged Sen. Kalu’s Assistance — ABSUTH

The Board and Management of Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) have said the institute did not seek the assistance of Sen. Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu over 18 months salary arrears owed to NMA members.

This is following a report in the media space alleging that some members of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) visited Sen. Kalu, appealing for his intervention.

ABN TV had reported that Dr Okwuonu Chimezie, the State NMA Chairman had led other members of the medical union to the former Abia governor in his Igbere hometown in Bende local government area, stating that doctors in the state have been subjected to difficulties as a result of the nearly two years unpaid salaries.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Chairman of the Governing Council of ABSUTH, Dr Wokoh Davidson N., he noted that Dr. Chimezie does not in any way represent the current state of affairs at the Teaching Hospital.

While expressing dissatisfaction with the action of Dr. Okwuonu Chimezie, ABSUTH applauded governor Okezie Ikpeazu for commencing the payment of salary arrears to doctors in Abia.

“This is coming barely one week after Government commenced the payment of the arrears as earlier promised by the Governor.

“We are not aware of any of such visit to any Senator

“We did not authorize such statements

“The Government of Abia State led by Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu PhD has shown genuine interest and is determined to clear the salary arrears – as the first tranche of payment was received recently

“The Board and Management of ABSUTH are grateful to the State Government and believe in her genuine interest in revitalizing the Hospital” it stated.
