Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Abia State has approved a waiver for Chief Amobi Godwin Ogah who recently joined the party from the APC to contest for primary election of the party and subsequently general election as a member of the Nigerian National Assembly.
Chief Ogah is seeking election to represent the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency in the House of Representatives in 2023.
Under the constitution of the party, new members and returnees are not qualified to seek elective positions until after two years, except they get a waiver.
Section 50 (9) of the PDP constitution says: “There shall be a minimum of two year membership span for a member to be eligible to stand for election into any public office, unless the appropriate executive committee gives a waiver or rules to the contrary.”
In a letter addressed to Chief Amobi dated April 7, 2022 and signed by the PDP chairman in Abia State, Rt. Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere, he said the waiver is in response to an earlier request by Amobi and an assurance of the party to its new members.
Titled, “Approval for Waiver in Favour of Chief Amobi Godwin Ogah member Peoples Democratic Party — Membership Card No: 0765002 Ikeagha 1 Ward 8, Isuikwuato LGA” the party while congratulating Chief Amobi urged him to be a good ambassador of the party.
