The Nigerian Army’s 14 Brigade in Ohafia, Abia State, has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a strong and mutually beneficial relationship with the media, as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Council, paid a courtesy visit to the Brigade Headquarters.
The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ahmad Mansur Dikko who also serves as Commander Sector 3 of the Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA gave the assurance on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, while receiving the NUJ delegation led by Comrade Felix Obani on behalf of the State Chairman, Comrade Chidi Asonye.
Speaking during the visit, the NUJ leadership said the engagement was aimed at formally welcoming the new Brigade Commander and reaffirming the Union’s readiness to sustain cordial working relations with the military. The Union acknowledged the media’s critical role as a bridge between institutions and the public, stressing the importance of responsible journalism in shaping public perception and ensuring balanced reportage. The delegation also solicited continued cooperation to enable journalists effectively discharge their professional duties.
In his response, Brigadier General Dikko appreciated the visit and emphasized the pivotal role of the media in nation-building. He noted that while the media has the capacity to build trust and confidence in public institutions, unprofessional reportage could equally erode such trust.
The Commander commended the NUJ for supporting the projection of the Nigerian Army’s activities and achievements in Abia State, stressing that the Army relies on credible media platforms to inform the public about its commitments, operations, and successes. He assured journalists of the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, transparency, and timely engagement.
Reiterating the Brigade’s mandate, Brigadier General Dikko affirmed the resolve of 14 Brigade to maintain security and stability across its area of responsibility while strengthening civil-military cooperation. He encouraged members of the public to take advantage of available facilities within the barracks, including the medical centre, schools, and market where appropriate.
He also urged that any cases of misconduct involving military personnel be promptly reported to the Officer Commanding 14 Brigade Military Police for necessary disciplinary action, assuring the delegation of his goodwill and openness to collaboration.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a commemorative plaque by the Brigade Commander to the NUJ Chairman as a symbol of mutual respect and sustained partnership. The event concluded with a group photograph and light refreshments.
The engagement underscored the enduring partnership between the 14 Brigade Nigerian Army and the media community in Abia State, anchored on trust, professionalism, and shared responsibility in promoting peace and security.
