Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has said his friendship with the late Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Solomon Ogunji started when they were young teenagers.

He stated this on Wednesday during a special valedictory service held by the Abia State Government Umuahia in honour of the late Engr. Solomon Ogunji.

The Governor said he felt a deep sense of personal loss by the death of Late Ogunji.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, the governor noted that he had a smooth relationship with the deceased whom he described as a personal friend.

The statement read in part, “According to him, both him and Ogunji fought and won many battles together pointing out that the Late Solomon Ogunji is one who gives everything including his life, time and energy to his friend. Dr. Ikpeazu who further said that the Late Ogunji was fearless, also pointed out that the deceased is a man that is beyond bribery. He wondered where he will find a friend like the Late Ogunji and asserted that Ogunji will remain his friend.

“In his tribute, the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu noted that the deceased did his best towards the development of the state and touched many lives and consoled his family over the loss.

“In a homily entitled “Never Forget who you are”, the President of Eastern Nigeria Union Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Pastor Bassey Udoh who was represented by Pastor Dr. Ukegbu Joseph noted that life is like a vapour and unpredictable while death is imminent.

“He stated that the late Commissioner is deserving of the honour done him even in death as he described Late Dr. Solomon Ogunji as an achiever and a very strong and courageous person and expressed hope that he will be duly rewarded by God for his services to the Abia State Government during his lifetime as a Commissioner.

“In a tribute on behalf of the family, Dr Emmanuel Ogunji described the deceased as a warrior who lived to give his life to those around him.

“In their separate tributes, the Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, the Secretary to Abia State Government, Barr Chris Ezem, the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Asiforo Okere among others described Late Ogunji as a dependable, honest and hard-working gentleman who touched many lives during his lifetime.

“The service was attended by several dignitaries.

“The remains of the Late Dr Solomon Ogunji will be buried tomorrow, Thursday, 26th November 2020 at his home, Ohambeke Ndoki, Ukwa East LGA”.
