A leading private university in Nigeria, Gregory University Uturu has concluded plans to commence the production of home movies.

The university ABN TV gathered is partnering with veteran Nollywood Artiste Emmanuel Ayalogu, for joint production of home movies.

Speaking at a brief ceremony marking the formal signing and unveiling of a Memorandum of Understanding, the Chancellor of the university, Prof. Gregory Ibe advocated the discovery, development and deployment of various latent talents of Nigerian youths in the creative industry, saying it will aid in the diversification of the country’s economy.

A release signed by Sleek Ogbonnaya Ogwo, the Deputy Registrar, Media & Public Relations of the university, Prof. Ibe who was represented by Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Augustine Uwakwe, extolled the creativity of Nollywood practitioners.

“Speaking through the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Augustine Uwakwe, the Chancellor extolled the ingenuity of Nollywood practitioners, stressing “by enhancing the Gross Domestic Product of Nigeria, the local film industry has indeed impacted positively on our economy and therefore should be encouraged by all stakeholders to assume higher roles especially in the face of the dwindling fortunes of oil revenue.

“Prof Ibe further stated that the partnership between the university and Nollywood would enable the institution to realize the mandate of “providing a professional platform for the fulfilment of the promise of equipping our scholars with skills and competencies with the aim of making them global champions in the world of work. According to him, Through the partnership, it is envisaged that our talented scholars will be coached and mentored by Nollywood professionals while participating in world-class film productions that will be transmitted locally and internationally.

“Speaking earlier, a highly elated Emmanuel Ayalogu went down memory lane to narrate the humble beginning and subsequent development of the Nollywood industry, reaffirming his willingness to rely on many years of experience in the fast-growing movie industry to drive the partnership with Gregory University Uturu. According to him, the partnership will lead to the production of Well crafted movies that will satisfy every professional requirement while meeting international standards.

“Members of the university management witnessed the ceremony, which featured endorsement speeches, symbolic signing and the unveiling of the agreement” the statement added.
