Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Janet E. Agbede has denied any attack by gunmen on the state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
The Commissioner was reacting to online publication titled, “Unknown Gunmen Attack Gov. Ikpeazu’s Security Agents, Disarm and Steal their Firearms”.
The CP in a statement issued on Monday by the Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Ogbonna Geoffrey said there was no such attack, adding that the publisher of the story chose a caption that will attract followers.
She explained that a Police Inspector attached to one of the Police Stations in Aba was attacked by hoodlums and his firearm taken away.
“The Commissioner of Police Abia State Command, CP Janet E. Agbede being abreast of a publication trending online with the caption “Unknown Gunmen Attack Gov. Ikpeazu’s Security Agents, Disarm and Steal their Firearms” wishes to state categorically that:
“There was no such attack on the Security agents or aides of the Executive Governor of Abia State rather a Police Inspector attached to one of the Police Stations in Aba was attacked by hoodlums and his firearm taken away.
“That the said caption does not mirrow the contents or body of the story. That the online publisher chose the caption to attract followers and to soothe his purpose.
“That one of the perpetrators of this dastardly act has been arrested and is helping in the investigation.
“Parents and guardians are advised to warn their children and wards to avoid crime or any act of criminality as crime does not profit any one rather it brings more harm than good”
