The people of Ebem Ohafia, Ohafia local government area of Abia state have again appealed to the police high authority to reconsider plans to move the Area Command located in the community to Arochukwu over disturbances that greeted the killing of Friday Arunsi, a native of the community, leading to the burning of the police station and other government facilities in the area.
The community insisted that if the Area Command is moved from them, it will amount to punishing them twice, being that their son was killed by a team of policemen in addition to the relocation of the police facility.
Speaking with ABN TV on Thursday, President General, Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU), Barr. Anaga Kalu while expressing regret over the damage of government properties fingered non-natives, including those from the neighbouring Cross River State for taking advantage of the extrajudicial killing to unleash mayhem.
He stated that even though the killing occurred of April 17, some hoodlums from neighbouring communities on April 18, 2020, invaded the police station, burnt it down along the customary and high courts that share a boundary with the police station.

While maintaining that those who took part in the destruction do not have the backing of the community, Barr. Anaga Kalu emphasised that Ebem has been living in peace with the community since 1910 it was sited in area, adding that the High Court that has been there in the past 50 years has as well produced many prominent judges that grew to the level of Justice of the Supreme Court.
He also expressed regret over the burning of documents domiciled in the court library, including case files saying it is sad.
While emphasising that Ebem Ohafia indigenes were not among detainees freed by the hoodlums who torched the police station and eventually looted the armoury, he said the community is not known for criminal activities.

He expressed the willingness of the community in helping the institutions involved in re-establishing their presence again in the community, revealing that prominent Sons and daughters of Ohafia at home and in diaspora as well as traditional rulers are making efforts to ensure the Area Command and other government institutions are not moved to Arochukwu.
