The African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial aspirant for Abia North, Ike Bishop Okoronkwo, popularly known as IBO, has unveiled his campaign organisation, campaign council and legislative agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring his determination to offer what he described as a new direction for political representation in the district.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held on Monday, October 26, 2026, at the ADC State Secretariat in Umuahia, Okoronkwo said his ambition was driven by the need to address poverty, unemployment, poor infrastructure and limited economic opportunities across Abia North.
The event, themed “O Zula Zukwanu Ike! Enough Is Enough, Let’s Take Back Abia North!”, provided an opportunity for the aspirant to outline his political vision, introduce key members of his campaign council and challenge the performance of the incumbent senator, Orji Uzor Kalu.

Okoronkwo maintained that political representation should be measured by tangible development and improvements in people’s living conditions rather than years spent in public office.
“Our people deserve more than political prominence. They deserve economic opportunities, functioning infrastructure, quality education and a future in which hard work can lead to prosperity,” he declared.
The ADC aspirant identified four major priorities in his proposed legislative agenda: education, economic prosperity, agriculture and women’s inclusion, and infrastructure development.
Under his proposed IBO Future Builders initiative, he pledged to advocate increased access to scholarships, vocational training, digital skills acquisition and apprenticeship opportunities for young people across the district.
On economic empowerment, Okoronkwo introduced the Abia North ARISE initiative, designed to support entrepreneurs, artisans, traders, graduates and small businesses through grants, training, mentorship, equipment support and access to markets.
He announced an ambitious four-year target of supporting 5,000 individuals in enterprise development and mobilising 10,000 employment and livelihood opportunities.
The aspirant also pledged to dedicate 80 per cent of his eligible personal earnings and income from the Senate towards empowerment programmes, subject to applicable laws and transparent accountability measures, if elected.
Speaking on agriculture, Okoronkwo said his administration’s legislative focus would include attracting investment, improving farmers’ access to finance, promoting agro-processing and expanding economic opportunities for women.
He disclosed that his team had commenced preliminary discussions with potential international development partners, including Norfund, FMO, Proparco, DEG, the United States International Development Finance Corporation, TechnoServe, AGRA and the Gates Foundation.
According to him, the objective is to work towards attracting at least $5 million in agricultural and enterprise investments across Abia North’s five local government areas.
He, however, clarified that the discussions were ongoing and that any investment would depend on project viability, due diligence and the approval of the relevant organisations.
On infrastructure, the aspirant promised to pursue federal interventions for the rehabilitation of critical roads, particularly in Ohafia, Abam, Isuikwuato and Acha.
He also pledged to engage the Rural Electrification Agency, electricity distribution companies and other relevant institutions to improve electricity access in underserved communities through grid extensions, mini-grids and renewable energy solutions.
Turning his attention to the incumbent senator, Okoronkwo questioned whether successive years of political leadership had delivered sufficient development and economic opportunities to the people of Abia North.
He cited a reported 28.8 per cent multidimensional poverty rate for Abia North from the 2022 National Bureau of Statistics poverty assessment, arguing that the figure highlighted the need for a different approach to governance.
The aspirant also raised concerns over worsening erosion in some communities, deteriorating roads, educational challenges and what he described as questionable claims surrounding certain constituency projects.
He challenged political officeholders to provide verifiable evidence of projects and programmes implemented for the benefit of their constituents.
Although critical of Senator Kalu’s political record, Okoronkwo insisted that his campaign would focus on policies and performance rather than personal attacks.
“I am not entering this race to trade insults with Senator Orji Uzor Kalu or any other politician. I am entering this race to offer a better alternative,” he stated.
He further declared that the Senate should not be regarded as a retirement destination for career politicians, stressing the importance of energy, commitment and effective representation.
In a major highlight of the ceremony, Okoronkwo unveiled members of his campaign council, naming Ugochukwu Uwaeke as Director-General and retired Major Kalu Agwu as Deputy Director-General.
Other appointments announced included Barrister Reginald Nwaokocha as Director of Finance, Chief Orji Awa Kalu as Director of Operations, Mazi Ejiofor Ezeani as Director of Stakeholders Engagement and Nwaobi Victoria Oby as Director of Support Groups and Special Groups.
Blessing Williams was named Women Leader, Chukwudi Ogbunde as Youth Leader, while Nneka Torti was appointed Director of Media.
The campaign organisation also announced Prince Udensi as Special Adviser on Branding and Communication, Chigo Udensi as Special Adviser on Strategy and Special Duties, and Okey Udenyi as Special Adviser on Security and Mandate Protection.
For the five local government areas, Hon. Uwakwe Okereke (DCC Rtd.) was named Arochukwu Coordinator, Igwe Amos Onyekachi for Isuikwuato, Hon. Prince Okwara Ukwa Agwu for Ohafia, Hon. Chigozie K. Igbo for Umunneochi and Ikechukwu Eze for Bende.
Okoronkwo charged the newly unveiled campaign officials to prioritise grassroots mobilisation, community engagement, discipline and effective communication of his legislative agenda.
He urged youths, women, professionals, traders, farmers and community leaders to support what he described as a movement for accountability, economic transformation and sustainable development.
The aspirant promised that, if elected, he would publish periodic progress reports, scrutinise public expenditure, pursue federal projects and hold relevant government agencies accountable for approved programmes.
“I will not promise that one man can solve every problem. I will promise to work, to pursue bills that advance our interests, to lobby for projects and funding, and to hold relevant agencies accountable,” he assured.
He concluded by calling on the people of Abia North to embrace what he described as the politics of performance rather than personalities.
“The time for excuses is over. The time to demand better is now. O Zula, Zukwanu Ike! Enough is enough! Let’s take back Abia North!” he declared.
The unveiling signals Okoronkwo’s intention to mount a challenge for the Abia North senatorial seat in the 2027 elections, with economic empowerment, infrastructure development and accountability forming the central pillars of his campaign.
