Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the appointment of prominent political figures, including former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uche Ogah; former Abia State Chief of Staff, Prof. A.C.B. Agbazuere; and former APC House of Representatives candidate, Chief Daniel Okeke, into the Abia State Labour Party Campaign Advisory Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The council, which brings together seasoned politicians, former public officeholders, technocrats, legal practitioners and grassroots stakeholders from across the state’s 17 local government areas, will be inaugurated on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Monday, October 26, by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Citizen Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the inauguration will take place at the Umuahia Township Stadium as part of activities marking the formal commencement of the Labour Party’s governorship campaign.
The event will begin with a church service, while members of the newly constituted council are expected to be seated by 12 noon.
The council will be chaired by former Deputy Governor of Abia State and former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu.
Other prominent members include former Senator Chris Adighije; Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Dr. Monday Ubani, Ken Ahia and Chief Umeh Kalu; Chief Ncheta Omerekpe; Chief Johnson Chukwu; Engr. Enyinnaya Nwafor; Senator Bob Nwannunu; Rt. Hon. Arua Arunsi; Ambassador Okey Emuchay; Chief Leslie Ezeikpe; and Chief Jackson Agbai.
The appointment of Ogah, Agbazuere, Okeke and other notable political figures is expected to attract attention within Abia’s political landscape, particularly as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
Ogah, who hails from Isuikwuato, previously served as Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, while Agbazuere, from Isiala Ngwa South, served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Abia State.
Okeke, an Arochukwu-born politician, was the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections. He recently announced his decision to join the Labour Party.
Their inclusion, alongside other political stakeholders from different backgrounds, highlights the Labour Party’s efforts to broaden its political base and strengthen its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.
Governor Otti, while congratulating the appointees, urged them to bring their wealth of experience, dedication and grassroots influence to bear in ensuring the party’s success at the polls.
The Governor expressed confidence that the council would contribute meaningfully to the party’s campaign preparations and its ambition to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.
The November 1 inauguration is expected to bring together Labour Party leaders, supporters and political stakeholders from across Abia State as the party formally launches its governorship campaign activities.
