The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, has expressed confidence in his chances of defeating the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Obi Aguocha, in the 2027 general elections, promising more effective and people-oriented representation if elected.

Orji, a former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, made his position known while speaking with journalists shortly after the Ikwuano/Umuahia Women Leaders Summit held in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

The former Speaker, who lost the 2023 House of Representatives election to Aguocha, said he remains determined to reclaim the constituency seat, expressing confidence that his experience in public office and understanding of the people’s needs would give him an advantage in the forthcoming election.

He maintained that effective representation goes beyond occupying political office, stressing the importance of attracting meaningful development, addressing constituents’ concerns and ensuring that the voices of the people are heard at the National Assembly.

Reacting to his endorsement by APC women leaders during the summit, Orji described the gesture as a demonstration of confidence in his leadership capacity and a renewed call to serve the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.

He appreciated the women for their support, noting that their involvement in grassroots political mobilisation would play an important role in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.

Orji also pledged to work towards the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates across various levels of government, expressing his commitment to strengthening the party’s electoral prospects in Abia State.

According to him, the forthcoming election should provide an opportunity for voters to assess candidates based on their track records, competence and ability to deliver meaningful representation rather than political sentiments or personal affiliations.

He urged the electorate to carefully examine the performance and antecedents of those seeking public office, insisting that the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia deserve quality representation capable of attracting development and improving their living conditions.

The former Speaker’s declaration sets the stage for another political contest with Hon. Obi Aguocha, who defeated him in the 2023 general elections.

With political activities gradually gathering momentum ahead of 2027, the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency seat is expected to attract significant attention as both political camps seek to win the confidence and support of voters.
