Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District and former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has expressed sadness over the passing of the Paramount Ruler of Ebem Ujuruezie Ancient Kingdom, HRH Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, JP, at the age of 89.
Kalu, in a condolence message, described the late monarch as a respected royal father who devoted a significant part of his life to serving his people and promoting the unity and development of Ebem Ohafia.
He recalled that only a few months ago, the community celebrated the monarch’s 89th birthday and 35 years on the throne, describing the milestone as a testament to his long years of traditional leadership and service.
According to the senator, Ezie Ukoha was widely respected for his commitment to peace, wisdom and the preservation of the customs and traditions of the people.
“Ezie Ukoha was a man of peace and wisdom. For decades, he remained committed to the unity and progress of Ebem Ohafia and to the preservation of the rich customs and traditions of our people,” Kalu said.
He described the monarch’s death as a painful loss that extends beyond Ebem Ohafia to the wider Ohafia community and Abia State.
Kalu extended his condolences to the late traditional ruler’s family, the Ebem Ohafia Council of Chiefs and Elders, Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU) and the entire community.
While acknowledging the grief occasioned by the monarch’s passing, the former governor urged the people to take consolation in his long life, decades of service and the legacies he left behind.
“As we mourn, we should also take solace in his long and fulfilled life, his 35 years of service on the throne and the legacies he left behind,” he said.
Kalu prayed for God to grant the monarch’s family and the people of Ebem Ohafia the strength to bear the loss and for the soul of the late traditional ruler to rest in peace.
Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, who died on September 26, 2026, served on the throne for 35 years.
