Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has donated N1 billion to teachers in the state to appreciate their contributions.
Otti announced the donation during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Umuahia. He said the money, to be kept in the Teachers’ Appreciation Fund, will be shared equally among all serving teachers.
He also ordered the Accountant General to pay all outstanding check-off dues within seven days, and to pay salaries owed to teachers affected by verification issues and the 4,075 newly recruited teachers before the end of October.
On promotions, he directed ASUBEB to conclude work on the 2021 and 2022 promotion and submit to him for approval before end of October.
The governor further directed the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education to immediately reinstate any teacher below 65 years who was disengaged, saying they should be returned even if they have six months to retire.
