TCN Repairs Kainji–Birnin Kebbi 330kV Transmission Line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has restored the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi Single Circuit Transmission Line, which had been out of service for more than three weeks following the collapse of Tower 367 in Yauri, Kebbi State.

TCN said the line was successfully restored to service at 5:24pm on Thursday, October 1, 2026, after its engineers completed emergency restoration works at the affected location.

The development was contained in a statement signed by the management of TCN and made available to journalists on Friday.

According to the company, “the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi Single Circuit Transmission Line, which was taken out of service following the collapse of Tower 367 on 7th September, 2026, has been restored to service.”

TCN said the restoration was achieved through the installation of an Emergency Restoration System tower at the collapsed tower location in Yauri.

“The restoration works involved dismantling and decommissioning the collapsed tower, aligning and preparing the conductors and skywire, erecting the ERS tower, and carrying out other associated works required to restore the line safely,” the company said.

The transmission company said its engineers “worked round the clock” to complete the repairs and return the line to service as quickly and safely as possible.

The Kainji–Birnin Kebbi transmission line is an important component of the electricity transmission network serving parts of the North-West, including Kebbi and adjoining areas. Its outage following the September 7 tower collapse had affected the transmission of electricity along the corridor.

The restoration is expected to strengthen the reliability of electricity supply through the affected transmission corridor, although actual power supply to consumers will also depend on available generation, distribution network conditions and other factors within the electricity value chain.

TCN thanked electricity consumers in the affected areas for their patience and understanding during the outage.

The company said it remained committed to “maintaining a stable and reliable transmission network.”
