Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured residents and visitors of the state of strengthened security as Lagos prepares to host President Bola Tinubu and welcomes an influx of visitors during the end-of-year period.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Tuesday during a security council meeting with security chiefs at the State House, Marina.
The development was disclosed in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, titled “Sanwo-Olu Holds Security Council Meeting.”
According to Omotoso, the governor was briefed on “all security activities and plans to strengthen the system ahead of the end-of-year activities.”
Sanwo-Olu said the state government would continue to take measures to prevent criminal activities and protect residents and visitors.
“We will not relent on our efforts to ensure that criminals don’t find a place for their evil activities in our state,” the governor said.
Omotoso said the meeting was held as Lagos prepares for increased activities in the state, including the visit of President Tinubu and the expected influx of visitors during the Yuletide.
“Lagos will host President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR as from today,” the commissioner said, adding that “several activities are being lined up for the Yuletide when an influx of visitors is expected.”
He also listed “various religious and cultural activities” among the events expected to take place across the state.
The commissioner said political activities were also picking up in the state “following the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that campaigns can begin.”
Those at the security meeting included the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai; Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Brig. Gen. A.O. Owolabi; Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu; Commander, 651 Base Services Group, Ikeja, Air Commodore M.A. Imam; and the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayodele Ogunsan.
Also present were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Tayo Ayinde; Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Hundeyin; and the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Lawal Pedro.
The governor’s meeting with the security chiefs comes as the state prepares for heightened movement and activities associated with the festive season, alongside political, religious, and cultural events.
