The Abia State Chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has denied having any alliance with the Labour Party or the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
The party also accused the Labour Party of imitating its two-finger victory-sign logo and urged it to stop using the symbol in its political activities.
In a statement dated September 19, 2026 and signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Rtn. Emeka Luis Okoro, the NDC said it had “no affiliation whatsoever” with the Labour Party and no alliance with the Abia State Government.
The NDC’s position comes amid renewed political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections and shortly after legal developments affirming the party’s right to use its two-finger logo. The Court of Appeal in Abuja, in a split decision, also recently set aside a judgment that had affected the party’s registration.
The party further accused the Labour Party of using its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in what it described as a sympathy campaign in Abia.
The NDC maintained that Obi is its presidential candidate for the 2027 election and alleged that the Labour Party was instead projecting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The party challenged Governor Otti to publicly declare his preferred presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 election.
It also called on the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, to exercise caution over his recent use of the two-finger symbol in connection with Governor Otti.
The NDC further alleged that an open declaration by Governor Otti on his presidential preference would reveal what it described as “hidden deals and secrets” concerning Abia State and the Federal Government.
The allegations and challenge were contained in the statement signed by Okoro and represent the position of the Abia NDC.
