Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has congratulated Governor Alex Otti and the people of Abia State as the state marks the 35th anniversary of its creation.
In a goodwill message titled “35 Cannons for Our State, Abia,” Kalu described the anniversary as a significant milestone and an opportunity for Abians to celebrate their collective journey, reflect on achievements recorded over the years and renew their commitment to the development of the state.
The former governor said he was particularly proud of the resilience, enterprise and determination that have continued to distinguish Abians within and outside the state.
According to him, the progress recorded in the past 35 years should be viewed as the collective product of successive administrations and the contributions of traditional institutions, civil servants, professionals, entrepreneurs, workers, youths, women and other citizens who have continued to believe in the potential of the state.
“As a former Governor of the State, I am particularly proud of the resilience, enterprise and determination of our people,” Kalu said.
He noted that while the anniversary provides an opportunity to celebrate accomplishments, it should equally serve as a moment to acknowledge challenges and look towards the future with renewed determination.
Kalu expressed hope that the next chapter of Abia’s development would be characterised by good governance, sustainable development, peace, unity, economic prosperity and expanded opportunities for the people.
“This anniversary provides an opportunity to look ahead with renewed hope and determination, with a commitment to ensure that the next chapter of the State’s history is defined by good governance, sustainable development, peace, unity, economic prosperity and improved opportunities for our people,” he stated.
The Abia North Senator subsequently called on citizens and residents of the state, irrespective of political or other differences, to continue working together in the spirit of unity and patriotism.
Kalu, who governed Abia State from 1999 to 2007, wished Governor Otti, the state government and the entire people of Abia a happy 35th anniversary.
Abia State, popularly known as “God’s Own State,” was created on August 27, 1991.
