The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) Branch, has declared a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike action, effective Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

In a notice issued to members of the branch, the union directed all academic staff to completely withdraw their services and comply with the directives of the union as it pursues the resolution of what it described as outstanding welfare and institutional demands.

The branch leadership also directed members to suspend participation in all statutory meetings, including Senate meetings, Faculty Boards, and other official meetings of the university.

The union urged members to remain united, resolute, and committed throughout the industrial action, stressing the need for collective action in pursuing its demands.

The branch said further directives and updates would be communicated to members as developments unfold.

The notice was jointly signed by the ASUU-ABSU Branch Chairperson, Dr. Chidi S. Mba, and Secretary, Dr. Victor U. Obisike.
