An unidentified middle-aged man believed to be a barrow pusher has been found dead along the Aba–Owerri Road in Aba, prompting an appeal by authorities for members of the public to help establish his identity and locate his relatives.
The deceased was reportedly discovered at ATUMA House, opposite St. Paul’s, No. 104 Aba–Owerri Road, in the Umungasi area of Aba.
According to information made available to ABN TV, the man was believed to have retired to rest inside his wheelbarrow after the day’s work but was later found lifeless.

A document issued by the Nigeria Police Force, Abayi Divisional Headquarters, dated July 23, 2026, authorized the evacuation of the unidentified corpse. The police stated that the body, estimated to be that of a man in his fifties, had already begun to decompose, posing a potential public health risk.
Following the directive, officials of the Environmental Health Department of Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Health Authority evacuated the body from the scene and deposited it at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Ahiaba Umueze, pending identification.
Authorities are appealing to anyone who may know the deceased or have information that could assist in identifying him to contact the Head of Department, Environmental Health Services, Osisioma Local Government Health Authority or the nearest police station.
The appeal is aimed at locating the deceased’s family to enable proper identification and facilitate appropriate arrangements.
Members of the public are encouraged to come forward with any useful information that may assist the authorities in resolving the matter.
