The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ibadan Zone, has appealed to the Governors of Oyo and Kwara States, Seyi Makinde and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to commence the full implementation of the signed 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement in their respective state-owned universities from July 2026.
The union warned that any further delay in implementing the agreement would inevitably plunge the affected institutions into a major industrial crisis, stressing that its members have already commenced mobilization for an indefinite strike.
The appeal was made on Tuesday during a meeting of the ASUU Ibadan Zone, held at Emmanuel Alayande University of Education (EAUE), Oyo.
The zone comprised the University of Ibadan, Ibadan; University of Ilorin, Ilorin; Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso; Osun State University, Osogbo; Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete; and Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo.
The union specifically called for the immediate implementation of the agreement at Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo; Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso; and Kwara State University, Malete.
ASUU maintained that the continued failure of the Oyo and Kwara State Governments to implement the agreement has subjected its members to severe hardship, leaving them unable to adequately meet their personal and family obligations amid Nigeria’s harsh economic conditions.
Speaking through the Zonal Coordinator, Professor Biodun Olaniran, ASUU Ibadan Zone said the patience of its members had been exhausted after waiting for the governors to act.
While commending the Governing Councils of the affected state universities for their efforts, the union accused the two governors of treating its members unfairly by failing to provide the financial support required for the full implementation of the agreement.
